For QuickBooks voucher cheques  ·  Letter paper  ·  Runs in your browser

Print cheques exactly in the boxes.

Cheque Writer Pro fills in your pre-printed voucher cheques: the cheque on top and both stubs below. It prints only what you type: date, payee, amount in figures and in words, memo and invoice lines. The boxes, bank details, cheque number and signature line stay on your paper, where they belong.

  • No installation, no account
  • Your data stays on your computer
  • Windows, Mac or Chromebook

How it prints

Your paper already has the boxes. We only add the words.

Voucher stock has the company name, bank, cheque number, MICR line and signature line printed on it. Cheque Writer Pro prints nothing else than the information you enter, positioned to land on the right lines of the cheque and on both stubs.

Illustration drawn with the program's own layout engine and typical voucher positions. Your stock may differ by a few hundredths of an inch: that is what the alignment screen is for.

What it does

Everything a cheque desk needs, nothing it doesn't.

Aligned to your stock

Print a test page, lay a blank voucher over it, and drag each field onto its line (or nudge it with the arrow keys). Add a scan of your blank cheque to see your real paper behind the preview. Shift everything at once for one printer; keep a layout per printer or per stock.

Cheque and both stubs

The payee, date, memo and amount print on the cheque and on stub 1 and stub 2. Invoice lines (reference, date, description, amount) fill both stubs, with the total.

Print queue and batch import

Write cheques one at a time, or import a list from Excel, a CSV or rows pasted from a QuickBooks report. Several invoices for one payee on one date become one cheque with stub lines and a summed total.

Amount in words, English and French

Correct words for every amount, including Canadian French (soixante et onze, quatre-vingts). Choose "and 56/100" or "Fifty-Six Cents", the letter case, and stars around the amount for security.

Numbers that never repeat

Each cheque gets its number when you print. If a sheet jams or misprints, mark it spoiled: it keeps its number in the register and a fresh copy goes back in the queue. Gaps and duplicates are flagged.

Checks before it spends paper

Warns about a possible duplicate payment, a post-dated or stale date, an amount over your approval limit, stub lines that do not add up to the cheque, and characters that cannot be printed.

Register, reports and exports

Search every cheque, mark them cleared, void or re-issue, and see totals by payee and month, outstanding cheques and voids. Export to CSV, or a simple positive-pay file for your bank.

Stock and several accounts

Track how many pre-printed sheets are left and get a warning when you run low. Each bank account has its own next number, stock count and layout.

Private by design

No account, no upload, no tracking. Everything is stored in your browser on your computer, with a PIN lock, an audit log and backups you can encrypt with a password.

Setup

Ten minutes, once, then it is just typing.

  1. 1
Open the app and enter your next number

Set "next cheque number" to the number pre-printed on the next unused sheet.

  2. 2
    Print the alignment test page

On plain paper at Actual size (100%). A 7.5-inch line tells you whether your printer or print dialog is scaling.

  3. 3
Match it to a blank voucher

Hold the sheets to a window, drag the fields onto the pre-printed lines, then print a sample on a spare voucher.

  4. 4
    Write, queue, print, confirm

After printing you confirm which sheets came out right, and the register is updated. Then enter the cheque in QuickBooks with the same number, date and amount.

Who it's for

Questions

Straight answers.

Which cheque stock does it work with?

QuickBooks-style voucher cheques on Letter paper: one cheque on top and two stubs below on a single 8.5 × 11 sheet. Positions are set by the alignment screen, so slight differences between suppliers are handled by calibration. Three-cheques-per-page stock without stubs is not supported yet.

Will it line up with my cheques straight away?

No, and no honest cheque program can promise that. The starting positions follow typical voucher stock, but every printer and paper path is a little different. You calibrate once with the test page (about ten minutes) and the result is saved. We check the printed positions in software against a PDF renderer, but we cannot test your printer, so always print a sample on a spare sheet first.

What does it print, and what does it leave alone?

It prints the date, payee, amount in figures and in words, memo, optional payee address, and invoice lines on both stubs. It never prints the cheque number (it is pre-printed on your stock), MICR line, bank details, boxes, labels or signature. The alignment test page is the one exception: it draws light grey guides on purpose, for calibration.

What happens after the 30-day trial?

You can still open the register, reports, exports and backups, so your data is never held hostage. Printing and importing are switched off until you activate a licence.

Where is my data stored? Is it uploaded?

In your browser on your computer. Nothing is uploaded and the app loads nothing from other sites. Because of that, clearing your browser's site data erases it: make a backup regularly (Settings & backup), optionally encrypted with a password, and keep a copy elsewhere.

Do I have to be online?

Only to open the page the first time, to buy, and to activate if you like. You can also download the app as a single file and open it from your computer with no internet at all.

Can I move the licence to another computer?

A key works for the one Install ID it was made for, which is this browser on this computer. If you replace the computer or change browser, send us your old and new Install IDs and we will issue a replacement key.

Does it connect to QuickBooks?

No. It does not read or change your QuickBooks file. You enter the cheque in QuickBooks as usual with the same number, date and amount; the Register screen exports a CSV to help you reconcile.

What are its limits today?

It is browser software, so it prints through a PDF that you print at Actual size from your PDF viewer; it does not drive the printer directly. Only Western-European characters can be printed (others are flagged before printing). The positive-pay export is a generic CSV, so ask your bank for their exact format. The licence check runs inside the browser and is meant to keep honest users honest. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit; 4C Digital is not affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit.

Can you supply the pre-printed cheques too?

Yes, 4C Digital also prints cheques. See our cheque reorder page.
